Himba Tribeswomen

The Himba Tribe of Northern Namibia Africa have been and continue to live off of the land and cows they migrate with. They build homes out of branches and clay. Structures they take apart and rebuild again after migration so as to not deplete the resources and ecosystem harmony of any particular region they make temporary nest in. A framework many indigenous nomadic communities practice globally.

Every day these sacred folx moisturize their skin with a mixture of red ochre and shea butter named otjize paste. This is a sunscreen, hydrator and beautifying agent. They coil their hair in red ochre and shea butter, producing one of the most protective styles I have seen for coily hair. As can be noticed by how thick their bountiful the uncoiled hair is at the end of each coil. They wear some of the most stunning adornments and hide skirts daily. Walking as divinity. Since they live in the desert and access to water is scarce, they cleanse their bodies with the smoke of fragrant herbs and resins like omumbiri (namibian myrrh)
